The Best Places to Find Vintage and Independent Homeware in Norwich and Norfolk
One of the things I love most about being an interior designer based in Norwich is that I get to do this for a living: wander around some of the best independent and vintage shops in the country, hunting for pieces that will make a client's home feel completely their own.
Norfolk is genuinely extraordinary for this. And I don't think people who've moved here from London or elsewhere always realise it. So consider this my love letter to the local shopping scene and a practical guide for anyone furnishing or refreshing their home.
The Norwich Lanes
If you haven't properly explored the Lanes, you're missing out. This maze of medieval streets in the heart of Norwich is packed with independent shops, and while not all of them are interiors-focused, there are some real gems tucked in.
The Lanes are also where you'll find some of the city's smaller antique and vintage dealers, and it's worth taking a slow wander without a list. The best finds are almost always the ones you weren't looking for.
Design House Norwich
Design House Norwich on Timberhill is also worth knowing about. A carefully curated showroom selling quality furniture, lighting and homeware, brands you won't find on the high street. It's a step up in price but the curation is genuinely good, and they offer a trade service for designers working with clients across the area.
Norwich Market
Don't overlook the market for homeware. There are stalls selling everything from vintage textiles to plants to ceramics, and the turnover is constant. I've found some genuinely beautiful pieces here over the years. Old linen, ceramic pots, the kind of thing that takes a room from looking "decorated" to looking "lived in." Go early, go often, and don't be afraid to ask stallholders if they have anything not on display.
Antique centres further afield
Once you get out of Norwich into the wider county, the hunting gets even better. The Fakenham Antique Centre is worth the drive, a proper sprawling antique centre where you can genuinely spend a morning and come away with a 1960s pendant light, a Victorian mirror, and a set of linen napkins for under £100 combined.
Holt is another gem. As a town it has a high concentration of independent shops and antique dealers in a very small area, and the clientele, and therefore the stock, skews towards good quality. Norfolk Natural Living is based nearby and sells beautiful, sustainably made homeware that fits perfectly with Studio 33's ethos.
Reepham, Aylsham, and Wymondham all have antique shops and markets worth exploring. The further you get from the city, generally the better the value.
A note on Facebook Marketplace
I know, I know it doesn't feel as romantic as a proper antique hunt. But Facebook Marketplace in Norfolk is genuinely exceptional for furniture and homeware. People clearing out large Norfolk farmhouses and country homes are selling beautiful old pieces for next to nothing because they just want them gone. I've sourced Georgian chests of drawers, mid-century sideboards, and original Victorian fireplaces for clients this way. Check it regularly, act quickly, and don't be afraid of something that needs a little attention.
The Studio 33 approach to vintage sourcing
My design philosophy has always been about mixing, a high-end investment piece alongside a high street find alongside a vintage treasure. It's that layering that makes a home feel personal rather than like a showroom. And it means that however modest your budget, there's always a way to make the space feel considered and characterful.
If you'd like help pulling together a room or sourcing pieces for your Norwich or Norfolk home, my Style Session or design packages are a great place to start. Sometimes you just need a professional eye on what you already have, and what it actually needs.
